Beach Volleyball Unveils 2025 Schedule

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team announced its 2025 schedule which will feature a powerhouse slate of opponents both home and away. The BeachBows home schedule includes eight regular-season dates with a pair of tournaments at Queen's Beach and the team's traditional Senior Weekend at the Ching Complex in Manoa in April.

In all UH will face all but three teams that appeared in the final 2024 AVCA national poll. The BeachBows return a dozen players from last year's team that won 24 matches, captured the Big West Championship and finished 11th in the national rankings. The BeachBows aim to make their fourth straight NCAA Tournament as it moves to Southern California this spring.

"This year's group of student athletes are hungry to represent Hawai`i and are poised to meet the challenges that our many top ranked opponents will bring to us here on our home sand and on the well-worn roads we travel to the beaches in California," head coach Evan Silberstein said.  "We know from experience that rising up and playing with the best is key to program success. We are excited to get back after it this season in pursuit of another Big West title and a NCAA  Championship run for our fans, families and supporters to be proud of."

The Best of the Best: For the second straight year, UH will open the year with a stacked field in the OUTRIGGER Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic. The tournament, which runs Feb. 20-22 at Queen's Beach, will feature five teams that finished last year in the top 10 of the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll, including three top-5 squads. Headlining the field is three-time defending national champion USC. National runner-up UCLA is also in the field along with Stanford, TCU, LMU and Arizona State.

Island Volleyball: Besides the OUTRIGGER Duke Kahanamoku Classic, UH will also compete on two other weekends at home. UH hosts the Heineken Queen's Cup, March 6-8, in Waikiki with a field that includes Chaminade, San Francisco, Tulane, Saint Mary's, and Washington. The Rainbow Wahine will complete their home schedule April 12-13 in Manoa when they take on Cal and  Grand Canyon at the Ching Complex.

Scheduling UP…As Always: The BeachBows will face all but three teams that finished last season in the AVCA Top 20 rankings. That includes every team that finished in the top 10.

Familiar Foes: Hawai'i has history with every team on its schedule, except for one. For the first time ever UH will face North Florida when the teams face off at the Best in the West tournament at Laguna Beach in April. The Ospreys, out of Jacksonville, captured the Atlantic Sun last year en route to their first NCAA Tournament bid and a No. 16 national ranking to end the season.

California Dreamin': UH will go no further than California for its away matches. In fact UH will play more than half its regular-season matches in the Golden State. The 'Bows compete in 15 combined duals encompassing three tournaments in March and April – the East Meets West Invitational (Manhattan Beach), Big West Challenge (San Luis Obispo), and the Best in the West (Laguna Beach). That does not include UH's appearance in the Big West Championship in Santa Monica and a possible trip to the NCAAs in Huntington Beach.

All Eyes On The Postseason: UH won its fourth Big West title and first in six years with last year's rousing run in Long Beach. The BeachBows will defend its title this year when CSUN hosts the event in Santa Monica, April 24-25. From there UH aims to make its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Held in Gulf Shores, Ala., since its inception in 2016, the NCAAs, move west this year to Huntington Beach, Calif., May 2-4.
