Women's Tennis Continues Homestand Hosting Nevada, Washington

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team hosts its first dual matches of the year this week after competing in two tournaments to start 2025. The Rainbow Wahine will first take on former Western Athletic Conference and future Mountain West rival, Nevada on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10:00 a.m. HT. The 'Bows will then battle Washington on Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:00 p.m. HT. Both matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex. It will be the season openers for both the Wolf Pack and the Huskies.

 HAWAI'I RAINBOW WAHINE (0-0, Big West)University of Hawaii Logo• The Rainbow Wahine opened the season with a pair of high-powered tournaments. First UH hosted No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 California in the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational to open 2025. The 'Bows followed by hosting the defending NCAA Champions and No. 2-ranked Texas A&M Aggies and the 17th-ranked USC Trojans last week in the four-day Weinman Foundation Invitational.
Joelle Lanz leads UH into their third week of action with a 3-3 record, notching wins over Cal's Tiziana Schomburg and Cami Brown and ,most recently USC's Simone Kay. Against Kay, Lanz perseveredin a tightly contested match that ended in a tie-breaker, 7-5, 7-6 (2).
• UH's Emma Forgac, Makeilah Nepomuceno, and Peppi Ramstedt have all secured one singles win thus far and are all 1-5 entering the week.
• The UH doubles pair of Nikola Homolkova and Ana Vilcek have a team-best 4-4 record. Both Hannah Galindo/Nepomuceno and Seena Masuda/Ramstedt come into the week with 2-6 records.

Team notes: This is Nevada's opening weekend. The Wolf Pack's Petra Janigova and Marlene Foers enter the season ranked at No. 95 in doubles to lead Nevada. 
• Last year Nevada recorded an 11-9 overall record while going 5-4 in the Mountain West.
• The Wolf Pack are a junior heavy team, carrying five juniors with no seniors. Nevada has one freshman, one sophomore and one graduate student on their roster

Streak: After winning three of the first six meetings against the Huskies, UW has won the last 12-straight matches
Last meeting: UW swept UH. 4-0 last season on Jan. 20, 2024. UH and UW have played each other every season since 2013.
Team notes: The Huskies come to Honolulu with two ranked singles players--No. 104 Carina Syrtveit and No. 121 Reece Carter and two doubles pairs, No. 37 Alexia Jacobs and Carter and 115th-ranked Sophie Luescher and Erika Matsuda. 
• Last year UW recorded a 17-112 overall record while going 5-5 in their final year in the PAC-12. The Huskies fell in the first round of the NCAA Championships to Princeton in Charlottsville, Va., 4-3.
• This is the Huskies first year as a member of the Big Ten.
