SEATTLE – The Hawai'i women's soccer team got on the board early but couldn't hang on, falling 3-1 at Seattle U Thursday to open a three-match road trip in the Pacific Northwest.
The Rainbow Wahine struck first when
Jacey Jicha found the back of the net for the first time in her career, heading one in off of the feed from
Brynn Mitchell in the 19th minute. The Redhawks came right back with a pair of goals to take the halftime lead. Taylor Marks scored in the 24th minute to tie things up before Marla Gaudlitz gave Seattle U the lead off a corner kick in the 40th minute.
UH out-shot the Redhawks in the first half, 8-6, with Mitchell and
Tatum Porter leading the way with two shots apiece.
Hawai'i came out firing to start the second half, getting off four shots in the first eight minutes of the final period, but were unable to convert. Seattle U took a two-goal lead with just over 15 minutes left in the match when Caroline Penner scored off of a UH turnover to make it 3-1.
The 'Bows fired off 17 shot attempts, five of which were on frame, while also earning seven corner kicks. UH has tallied double-digit shot attempts in each of the last three matches and is averaging 13.3 shots per match on the year.
Nalani Damacion led the way with four shots while Mitchell and Porter followed with three shot attempts each.
The Rainbow Wahine continue their road trip with a match at Eastern Washington on Sunday at 10 a.m. HT.
