HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i outside hitter Caylen Alexander repeated as the Big West women's volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after putting away 61 kills over three matches on the road, including two matchups against nationally ranked opponents.
 
The junior from Alpharetta, Ga., averaged 4.69 kills per set over the week to remain among the nation's leaders. The junior opened UH's first road trip of the season by posting 23 kills in 52 attempts in a five-set duel with UNLV on Sept. 17 in Las Vegas. She then put away a match-high 20 in a four-set loss at No. 8 Texas on Friday in Austin, giving her three consecutive matches with at least 20 kills. She nearly made it four in a row before finishing with 18 kills while hitting .302 over four sets at No. 20 Baylor last Saturday in Waco, Texas. Alexander hit .271 for the week and also served up five aces to move into the team lead with 12 this season. She also came up with 23 digs and posted double-double performances against UNLV and Baylor to raise her season total to eight.
 
Alexander has posted at least 20 kills in seven of UH's 10 matches this season and enters the week fourth in the nation in kills per set (4.98) and sixth in points per set (5.51). She's second nationally in total kills (229) and total points (253.5). She leads the Big West in each of those categories and is second in the conference and 20^th nationally in attacks per set (11.63).
 
Prior to this season a player hadn't posted three consecutive matches with 20-plus kills since 2017, a feat Alexander has now accomplished twice in 10 matches.
 
Alexander earned her first Big West Offensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 16. She had six Freshman of the Week awards in 2022.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (6-4) return to SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center for the opening weekend of the Big West schedule. UH faces UC Irvine (6-5) on Friday and Cal State Fullerton (4-6) on Saturday. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. HT.
