HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opens its first road trip of the season by taking on UNLV on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time (3:30 p.m. Hawai'i time). After facing the Rebels, the Rainbow Wahine will head to Texas to continue the three-game trip and face No. 8 Texas on Friday in Austin and No. 20 Baylor on Saturday in Waco to finish off the non-conference portion of the schedule.

'BOWS NOTES
- The Rainbow Wahine closed their season-opening homestand by picking up three wins last week and capturing the OUTRIGGER Invitational title to improve to 6-1.
- UH enters the road trip with a four-game winning streak and is off to its best start since going 7-0 to open the 2019 season.
- UH claimed three Big West Player of the Week awards on Monday. Caylen Alexander was named Offensive Player of the Week after a historic performance against Texas State. Kate Lang earned her 12th career Setter of the Week award and Miliana Sylvester picked up her first Freshman of the Week honor.
- Alexander posted the highest kills total in the nation this season with a career-high 38 in the OUTRIGGER Invitational finale against Texas State and was named the tournament MVP. It was the most for a UH player since Kim Willoughby put away 38 against Washington on Sept. 7, 2002.
- Alexander has posted 20-plus kills five times this season and ranks third nationally with 5.09 kills per set and fifth 5.61 points per set, and leads the Big West in both categories.
- Lang averaged 10.36 assists per set over three matches last week and enters the week third in the Big West at 9.70.
- UH senior libero Tayli Ikenaga leads the defense with 131 digs (3.97 per set) this season and is three digs away from reaching 1,000 for her career.
- UH has gone to five sets in five of seven matches and is 4-1 in those matches. The 'Bows have played 33 out of a possible 35 sets this season.
- UH received five points in this week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I WVB Poll.
THE MATCHUP
- UH leads the all-time series with UNLV 8-0 and Tuesday's match will be the first meeting since Sept. 20, 2003. UH swept that match 30-16, 30-9, 30-22.
- UNLV visited Mānoa for a spring exhibition match on March 12 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. UH pulled out a 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13 win.
- UNLV enters the week at 5-2 overall (4-1 at home) under the direction of second-year head coach Malia Shoji, niece of legendary former UH coach Dave Shoji.
- Malia Shoji led UNLV to a 19-13 season in her first year as head coach. The Rebels ended the 2023 season in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
- The Rebels split their matches in the Dig in the Desert last week in Las Vegas. They were swept by Cal Poly on Sept. 12 in their first home loss of the season and bounced back with a sweep of North Texas on Sept. 14.
- Middle blocker Jordyn Freeman ranks second in the Mountain West and 10th nationally with a .472 hitting percentage. She's also 29th in the nation with 1.38 blocks per set.
- Senior outside hitter Dakota Quinlan leads the Rebels with 2.92 kills per set followed by Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos at 2.38.
- UNLV has three liberos from Hawai'i on its roster; seniors Alyssa Muraoka (Honolulu) and Isha Knight (Mililani), and freshman Kody Wengler (Honolulu).
