LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2024 Beach Volleyball All-America Team on Thursday with the Rainbow Wahine top pair of Jaime Santer and Alana Embry garnering second-team honors.
It's the first such honor for Santer (Sr., Toronto, Canada) and Embry (So., Poway, Cailf.), who became the 13th and 14th All-Americans, respectively, in program history. The tandem has played together at the top of the order in all 35 matches this season. The duo have won a team-best 24 matches this year (against 11 losses) and boast more than a half dozen wins over ranked squads. They have come on strong during the tail end of the season with wins in eight of their last 10 matches, including three key wins in UH's Big West title run last weekend.
Santer earned national recognition after a UH career that has seen her be a four-year starter, three-time all-Big West selection and key member of three NCAA Tournament teams for UH. She also becomes the third Canadian BeachBow to earn All-America recognition, joining
Emily Maglio (2016, '18, '19) and
Kaylee Glagau (2022, '23) Embry, meanwhile has had a remarkable transition to Division I beach volleyball in her first season at UH. She went 43-0 last year at Grossmont College to win the California state junior college championship and was previously a setter for the New Mexico State indoor volleyball squad.
Santer and Embry are one of 16 pairs across the nation - eight on the first team and eight on the second team - to earn AVCA All-America honors. It marks the third straight season a UH pair has earned national recognition. UH has had at least one All-America citation in 10 of the 12 years of the program's existence.
The BeachBows are currently in Gulf Shores, Ala., preparing for the 2024 NCAA Championship. The No. 9 seed Rainbow Wahine will take on No. 8 seed LMU on Friday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. CDT/7:00 a.m. HT in a match broadcast on ESPNU.
