RIVERSIDE, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (6-14, 1-5 Big West) concluded its regular season capturing its first Big West win at UC Riverside, 4-1 on Sunday at the SRC Tennis Courts. The win snapped the team's seven-match losing streak and secured the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Big West Championship this week in San Diego. It also marked the first win under interim head coach Andrew Yani and interim assistant coach Tom Park.
The Rainbow Warriors came out strong, capturing the doubles point to open the match. Hawai'i's No. 3 duo of
Diego Dalisay and
Guillaume Tattevin defeated Lucas Ibarrondo Suarez and Hugu DeGrande, 6-3 to start the day. UH's No. 2
Quinn Snyder and
Andrew Somerville followed by holding off UCR's Aarav Sane and Ryan Huynh by a break 6-4 for the early 1-0 lead.
The HIghlanders quickly tied the match at 1-1 winning at No. 5 with DeGrande defeating UH's
Sohta Urano, 6-4, 6-1. But then Hawai'i reeled off the next three wins to clinch the win. On the No. 1 court,
Quinn Snyder dispatched Joshua Roth in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 to get the Warriors rolling. UH's No. 3 Tattevin followed with a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set victory over Suarez. Hawai'i's No. 4
Andy Hernandez then clinched the match, shutting out UCR Aarav Sane in the second set, 6-3, 6-0 for the team win.
Hawai'i will enter this weeks Big West Championship as the No. 5 Seed and will face UC Davis in Friday's quarterfinal round at 6:00 a.m. HT at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif..
