HONOLULU – Trailing by three runs in the eighth inning, the Hawai'i baseball team rallied to force extras before
Naighel Ali'i Calderon delivered a walk-off double in the 11th inning to give the 'Bows a 6-5 win and series victory over Cal Poly.
Down 4-1 heading to the bottom of the eighth, the Rainbow Warriors plated two runs in that frame, one in the ninth to force extras and one each in the 10th and 11th to secure the win.
Austin Machado pulled the Rainbow Warriors within one with a two-out, two-run double in the eighth to make it 4-3. UH tied it up in the ninth when
Matthew Miura singled the came around to score from second base on a wild pitch to make it 4-4 and send it to extras.
The Mustangs took the lead with a run in the top of the 10th, but UH came right back with a run in the bottom half to extend the game.
Jordan Donahue led off the frame with a double then came in to score on a
Dallas Duarte sacrifice fly to send it to the 11
th tied at five.
Calderon came up with runners on first and second and one out in the 11th and smacked the first pitch off the right field wall to drive in Ickes from second and give Hawai'i its second walk-off victory of the weekend.
Connor Harrison delivered a stellar effort out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit over 4.1 shut out innings with three strikeouts.
Tyler Dyball gave the Rainbow Warriors a scoreless relief effort going 1.1 innings while
Brayden Marx got the win, allowing no runs in two innings of work with two strikeouts.
Calderon, who started for just the second time all season, delivered his first career walk-off hit and ended the game 1-for-2 with two walks. He contributed to both of UH's walk-offs this weekend, scoring the winning run in Friday's victory after leading off the ninth with a single.
The 'Bows head back on the road for a three-game series at UC San Diego, starting Friday at 3 p.m. HT.
