SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the final round of the 77
th Western Intercollegiate Wednesday at the Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Rainbow Warriors placed 14
th with a 1,127 total.
After a rough front nine that saw the team shoot a combined 21-over par, the Rainbow Warriors rebounded with an even par back nine, that included 13 birdies.
Blaze Akana paced the team with a final round 1-over 71 to finish in a tie for 46
th place at 8-over 218 for the tournament. The senior completed his final seven holes in 3-under, including back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18.
Kolbe Irei and
Josh Hayashida each posted 2-over 72 on Wednesday. Irei carded 3-under on his back nine with four birdies and only one bogey while Hayashida went even par with two birdies and two bogeys. The duo tied for 73
rd overall at 15-over 225.
Tyler Ogawa also shot even par on his back nine, rallying from a front nine 40, to card a 6-over 76 and finish tied for 86
th at 21-over 231.
Isaiah Kanno and
Dane Watanabe, the latter who went 2-under over his final six holes, each shot 80. Watanabe placed 89
th at 234 while Kanno finished in 92
nd place at 238.
Stanford captured the team title at 1,058 while Arizona's Filip Jakubcik won the individual title at 4-under 206.
Hawai'i will next compete in the Big West Championship in La Quinta, Calif., April 28-30.
