HONOLULU — The No. 12 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team made its Senior Night a memorable one with a pair of wins on a wet and rainy Sunday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex. The Rainbow Wahine blanked Chaminade, 5-0, before dispatching No. 19 Grand Canyon, 4-1.
By going a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, the BeachBows improved their record to 20-11 on the season. Following the matches, Sabrina Hardisty, Kaylee Glagau, Anna Maidment, Pani Napoleon, Jaime Santer and Riley Wagoner were honored during Senior Night festivities.
UH's match versus Chaminade -- the first-ever meeting between the schools -- was played in a deluge with UH pulling off the sweep. The BeachBows won four of five courts in convincing straight-straight fashion against a Silversword (3-8) squad in its inaugural season. Senior
Sabrina Hardisty made her first appearance in the starting lineup this season, pairing up with
Riley Wagoner at the No. 4 court. Chaminade's Leilani Ama and Grace Talpash extended the UH duo to three sets but Hardisty and Wagnoner ultimately helped ensure a UH sweep with a 21-13, 19-21,15-8 win.
In the nightcap, UH engaged in a rematch with GCU (13-14). A day after beating the Lopes, 3-2, the 'Bows picked up its second win over GCU in as many days. They did it in similar fashion with the No. 3, 4, 5 flights all going the full three sets. But unlike the first matchup, UH flipped the script and took two of those three courts, including a winning performance by senior Anna Maidment with partner Sydney Miller at the No. 4 flight.
The "Bows got the clinching third point from the senior duo of Glagau and Napoleon who shut the door on GCU with a dominating 21-17, 21-10 win over Sarah Dickson and Katie Keefe at the No. 2 flight. It completed an undefeated weekend for Glagau and Napoleon who have won five of six matches since being paired just two weeks ago..
With the dual match win already in hand, UH capped the night at the top of the order as senior Jaime Santer went out a winner in her final home match as she and partner Alana Embry picked up a straight set win over Krista Rowan and Sophie Hladyniuk to win their team-best 21st dual match of the year.
The Rainbow Wahine will have a bye this weekend before heading off to Long Beach for the 2024 Big West Championship, April 25-26. The winner of that tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship in early May.
