Nikola Homolkova posted a 5-of-6 combined singles and doubles record last week to earn Big West Player of the Week honors. Homolkova's week was highlighted by an upset over a top-50 player from highly touted No. 2 Michigan. This is the second weekly award of Homolkova's Rainbow Wahine career (March 29, 2023).
The Pelhrimov, Czech Republic native did not drop a set in any of her three singles matchesof. She defeated Cal State Fullerton's Natalie Duffy of Cal State Fullerton, 6-4, 6-4, and Long Beach State's Doga Akyurek, 7-5, 6-3. Hawai'i hosted second-ranked Michigan on Friday and the junior knocked off No. 46 Gala Mesochoritou, 6-3, 6-3. Homolkova tallied the lone point for the Rainbow Wahine in the hard fought 1-4 loss.
In her lone doubles loss this week, The Beach's Rhona Cook and Peppi Ramstedt edged the UH's No. 1 duo of
Ana Vilcek and Homolkova in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (9-7). But Homolkova and Vilcek were dominand winning 6-1 against both Michigan and Cal State Fullerton.
Currently, Hawai'i is 5-5 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play with a 4-0 record.
