Men's Tennis Falls Short to Cal Poly On Senior Day

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (5-12, 0- Big West) fell short in their final home match of the season to Cal Poly, 2-5. Both Quinn Snyder and Andy Hernandez carved out singles victories to lead the Rainbow Warriors. After the match, Hawai'i honored its two seniors--Blue Cockle and Guillaume Tattevin on their Senior Day at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs secured the doubles point to start the match with a 1-0 lead. On the No. 3 court, Cal Poly's duo of Joe Leather and Fernandeo Fonseca defeated UH's Andrew Somerville and Sohta Urano, 6-2 and on the No. 1 court, CP's Colter Smith and Bastiaan Weststrate defeated UH's Quinn Snyder and Guillaume Tattevin, 6-3.

Cal Poly won the match by notching wins at No. 6, 2 and 3. In the loss, UH's No. 1 Snyder earned his second victory of the week by defeating CP's Noah Berry in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. UH's Andy Hernandez earned a straight-set win at No. 4 over Sean Kamyshev, 6-3, 7-5.

Hawai'i's Diego Dalisay, who competed and was injured this past fall, made his long awaited UH regular season debut on Saturday. He won the first set, but Cal Poly's Colter Smith held off Dalisay by a break in the second set. Smith prevailed in a hard-fought super-tiebreaker for the win, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9).

The Rainbow Warriors will have a couple of weeks off before they end the regular season with three road matches at UC San Diego (April 17), at UC Riverside (April 19) and at UC Irvine (April 20).
