DAVIS, Calif. — The No. 12 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team kicked off the first of three days of competition at the Big West Challenge with a pair of wins over league competition on Friday. The Rainbow Wahine (11-8) swept  CSUN and UC Davis by identical 5-0 scores at the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts.

The BeachBows opened the tournament with a resounding 5-0 victory over CSUN. It marked UH's fifth shutout win this season and they did so by winning four of its five points in straight sets. The lone court that went the distance was the No. 2 flight and even then it was anti-climatic as Kaylee Glagau and Julia Thelle trounced Tasha Mae and Lauren Eknoian, 15-6, in the third and deciding set. UH remained undefeated (10-0) all-time against the Matadors and have yet to drop a single point in the series. 

The second match of the day saw a similar result, though it came in much tougher fashion. The 'Bows swept the host Aggies (10-8) but were extended to three sets on a pair of courts. One of those wins came at flight No. 5 where the duo of Anna Maidment and Sydney Miller finished off Anna Braun and Kate O'steen. 23-21, 20-22, 15-6  Maidment and Miller are now a stellar 11-3 on the season together. The No. 3 duo of Julia Lawrenz and Pani Napoleon won in straight sets, but were also tested, before picking up a 21-19, 25-23 win over Tabitha Mitchell and Kimi Waller. UH improved to 9-1 all-time against the Aggies, including 3-0 in Davis. 

The Rainbow Wahine head cross town to the campus of Sacramento State for two more Big West Challenge matches on Saturday. The day will start with a showdown versus No. 7 Long Beach State at 10:00 am. HT, before the 'Bows take on CSU Bakersfield at 12:00 p.m. HT.
