KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i – University of Hawai'i freshman
Dane Watanabe carded a 3-under 69 in the opening round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate, Thursday at Mauna Lani North Course.
The freshman carded five birdies and two bogeys on his round and is currently tied for 37
th place.
Kolbe Irei is a shot back after a 2-under 70 and tied for 49
th.
As a team, the Rainbow Warriors posted 3-under 285 and sit in 17
th place.
No. 2 North Carolina leads the team standings at 26-under 262 followed by No. 7 Arizona State (265), No. 24 Texas Tech (267), No. 45 Oklahoma State (270), and top-ranked Auburn (272). Individually, OSU's Preston Stout leads the 124-man field at 10-under 62 followed by ASU's Wenyi Ding and TTU's Matthew Comegys, who are both a shot back.
In addition to Watanabe and Irei, also competing for UH are

th). Big Island native
Isaiah Kanno is competing as an individual and carded a 2-over 74.
The second round is scheduled for Friday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
