LIHU'E, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a 2-over 290 in the first round of the 47
th John A. Burns Intercollegiate Thursday at the Ocean Course Hokuala.
Led by three golfers who carded 1-under 71 on the day –
Blaze Akana,
Dane Watanabe, and
Kolbe Irei – the Rainbow Warriors are tied with Fresno State for 14
th place. Long Beach State holds the first day lead at 15-under 273 followed by three teams who shot 10-under 278 – Grand Canyon, Washington State, and Arizona.
Individually, Arizona's Yannick Malik tied the tournament's course record with an 8-under 64 to hold the lead by one stroke over San Diego State's Justin Hastings (65).
UH's top three golfers combined for 14 birdies on the day, including Akana's six. Also competing for UH are
Tyler Ogawa (77, t-101

th).
Four others are competing as individuals –
