Hawai‘i Swimmers Fall In Dual Meet vs. UC Santa Barbara

MALIBU, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim teams fell in dual meets against UC Santa Barbara on Friday. The event was hosted by Pepperdine at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif.. The Rainbow Wahine fell to the Gauchos. 179-83, while the Rainbow Warriors lost, 178.5-82.5. 

Hawai'i's Arianna Sakellaris hit the wall first in the 1,000 Free finishing with a time of 10:03.63 which ranks as the fifth fastest time in UH history. Later, in the 500 Free, Sakellaris finished second, clocking in with a time of 4:52.53 which ties her with Emma Berry (2007) for the ninth-fastest time in the UH record books.

Mandolin Nguyen had a strong day, winning the 200 Breast with a time of 2:14.91 and she also finished second in the 100 Breast coming in at 1:01.55.

Mia Blazhevska Eminova held off UCSB's Taryn Emprensilapa by two-hundredths of a second to finish first in the 100 Free. Blazevska Eminova won gold with a time of 51.20.

For the Rainbow Warriors, Milan Bukovics won the 200 Fly with a time of 1:47.67. Bukovics also posted an NCAA B cut qualifying time in the 200 Back with a mark of 1:53.50. Jordan Meacham tied for first place with Austin Sparrow. Both touched the wall at 20.06. UH's Deiterich Meyer (20.17) and Edward Stoddard (20.53) finished in third and fourth respectively in the race.

Meacham also finished second in the 100 Free behind UCSB's Sparrow. Meachem clocked in with a time of 44.34. UH finished #2, 3, and 4 in the event with Finn Brophy (44.74) and Meyer (45.05) coming in right behind Meacham.

The men's and women's swim/dive teams return to action with a pair of home events. Hawai'i will take on Harvard and Arkansas on Jan. 9th beginning at 5:00 p.m. HT. UH will follow with a dual meet against Whitman College on Saturday, Jan. 11 beginning at 5:00 p.m. HT. Both events will be held at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
