KĀ'ANAPALI, Maui – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team carded a final round 9-under 275 at the Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational Monday at the Royal Kā'anapali Course.
The total tied for the 10
th-best round of the day and pushed the Rainbow Warriors to 18
th place in the final standings at 1-over 853. Oklahoma went wire-to-wire to capture the team title at 42-under 810 while OU's Jaxon Dowell won medalist honors at 17-under 196, one stroke better than teammate Clark Van Gaalen, who was competing as an individual.
The tournament title was OU's fifth overall Kā'anapali title and third straight. Last year, the Sooners shared the title with East Tennessee State.
A trio of UH golfers carded 3-under 68 on Monday –
Tyler Ogawa,
Josh Hayashida, and
Anson Cabello. Ogawa and Hayashida finished the tournament at 3-under 210 and tied for 49
th place. Cabello posted 8-over 221 and tied for 111
th.
Dane Watanabe shot even par 71 and tied for 80
th at 215 while
James Whitworth carded 2-over 73 and tied for 118
th at 227.
Three Warriors competed as individuals –
Nathan Szpakowicz (72=227; t-118
th),
Skylor Taylor (79=234; 122
nd), and
Quinn Murray (82=240; 123
rd).
The tournament concluded the fall season for the Rainbow Warriors. UH will open the spring season with the Amer Ari Intercollegiate, Feb. 6-8 in Waimea, Hawai'i.
