IRVINE, Calif. — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team faces Cal Poly in the final of The Hawaiian Islands presents the 2024 Outrigger Big West Women's Volleyball Championship on Saturday at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif.
The title match features the top two seeds in the bracket with the defending champion and second-seeded Rainbow Wahine (20-8) taking on the Big West regular-season champion Mustangs (22-8). The match is set for 5 p.m. Pacific Time (3 p.m. Hawai'i Time) and will be streamed on ESPN+.
UH advanced to the final with a dramatic 25-22, 16-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13 victory over UC Davis in Friday's semifinal round. Cal Poly swept Long Beach State 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 in the earlier semifinal match.

'BOWS NOTES
- The Rainbow Wahine entered the Big West Championship as the second seed for the second straight year. UH swept through last year's inaugural event at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif., with wins over Cal Poly and host Long Beach State to earn the program's 30th straight NCAA Tournament berth and 41st overall.
- The 'Bows are seeking a fifth straight Big West championship. UH captured the conference regular-season crown in 2019, '21 and '22 before winning the Big West Championship title last year.
- UH reached 20 wins for the fifth straight season, the sixth time in head coach Robyn Ah Mow's seven seasons, and the 44th season overall.
- With Friday's win over UC Davis in the semifinals, the 'Bows are 7-4 in five-set matches this season. UH's 11 five-set matches are the most since playing 12 in 1984.
- Caylen Alexander put away 22 kills against UC Davis marking her 15th match this season with 20-plus kills, the most since Jamie Houston had 15 in 2007.
- Alexander, the Big West Player of the Year, posted her 17th double-double of the season with a career-high 17 digs.
- Alexander continues to lead the country in total kills with 588 and ranks third nationally with 5.20 kills per set.
- Middle blocker Jacyn Bamis tied her career high with 15 kills and hit .448 in the semifinal win.
- Outside hitter Stella Adeyemi had four kills and four errors through three sets on Friday. She put away seven kills with one error to hit .545 over the final two sets. She had four kills in seven error-free attempts in the deciding fifth set.
- Big West Setter of the Year Kate Lang had 50 assists and 17 digs to post her 14th double-double of the season and 49th of her career. She dished out at least 50 assists for the eighth time this season.
- Lang ranks seventh in NCAA Division I with 1,245 total assists and 26th with 10.55 assists per set.
- Tayli Ikenaga, the Big West Libero of the Year, had 19 digs in her 25th double-digit performance of the season. She ranks first in the Big West with 473 total digs and is second with 4.01 digs per set.
- As a team, UH leads the Big West and ranks 22nd nationally with 13.90 kills per set. The 'Bows also lead the conference in assists per set (12.99) and digs per set (15.85), and ranks second with a .242 hitting percentage.
THE MATCHUP
CAL POLY
- UH holds a 48-10 lead in the series with Cal Poly, which dates back to 1980.
- UH has won the last three meetings, starting with a win in the semifinals of last year's Big West Championship in Long Beach, Calif.
- The 'Bows swept the regular-season series with the Mustangs. UH swept Cal Poly 25-21, 29-27, 25-21 on Oct. 18 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and won in four sets (25-19, 25-12, 15-25, 25-20) in the rematch on Nov. 2 in Honolulu.
- Since the loss to UH in Manoa, Cal Poly has won seven straight and captured its first Big West regular-season title since 2018.
- Cal Poly's 22 wins this season is the highest total in Caroline Walters' six-season tenure as head coach. Walters was named the Big West Coach of the Year this season.
- Hawai'i and Cal Poly both had six players on the All-Big West teams announced on Tuesday. Outside hitter Tommi Stockham and middle blocker Breklyn Pulling represented Cal Poly on the All-Big West first team.
- Cal Poly leads the Big West with a .252 hitting percentage followed by UH at .242.
- Hawaii and Cal Poly both hit .251 against each other in the regular-season series. Caylen Alexander had 18 kills in the first meeting and 20 in the second and averaged 5.43 kills per set against the Mustangs.
- Cal Poly and Hawaii were voted 1-2 in the Big West Preseason Poll, finished in that order in the regular season, and are the last two teams standing in the Big West Championship.
