KAPOLEI, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is three strokes off the lead and in a tie for third place following the first round of the Kapolei Invitational, Tuesday at the Kapolei Golf Club.
The Rainbow Warriors shot 3-under 285 and trail Texas State (282) and Utah Valley (284) in the 15-team field. TSU's Sakke Siltala has the clubhouse lead at 6-under 66, one stroke ahead of UVU's Dan Huddleston and San Diego's Ryan Abuan.
Senior
Tyler Ogawa is two strokes off the lead after a 4-under 68 and a tie for fourth place to lead the 'Bows. The senior recorded an eagle and three birdies with just one bogey on his round.
Anson Cabello and
Josh Hayashida each shot even par 72 and are tied for 24
th.
Dane Watanabe carded 1-over 73 and is tied for 32
nd and
James Whitworth posted 5-over 77 and is tied for 65
th.
Four Warriors are competing as individuals led by freshman
Nathan Szpakowicz, who shot 1-under 71 and is tied for 13
th place. Others include
