KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team completed the first round of the Nanea Invitational with a 311 Monday at the Nanea Golf Club.
Leading the way for the Rainbow Wahine were
Emiko Sverduk and
Kellie Yamane, who each shot 2-over 75 and are tied for 34
th place. Sverduk overcame a 3-over start after five holes and posted three birdies during a five hole stretch go get to even par. Yamane carded five birdies and seven bogeys on her round.
Maline Kraus shot 5-over 78 and sits in a tie for 49
th place while
Mia Hirashima is tied for 57
th at 81.
Varnika S. Achanta and
Wendy Song, the latter of whom is competing as an individual, each shot 88 and are tied for 59
th place.
Top-ranked Stanford leads the field at 13-under 279, two strokes ahead of No. 8 Arizona State (281). Three golfers share the lead at 6-under 67 – ASU's Isla McDonald-O'Brien, Stanford's Megha Ganne, and San Jose State's Lucia Lopez Ortega.
The tournament continues on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m., shotgun start. UH will be paired with Oregon State and Brigham Young.
