Alexander Earns Fourth Big West Volleyball Award

HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i outside hitter Caylen Alexander picked up her fourth Big West women's volleyball Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday after posting 38 kills in the first two matches of a three-match road trip.

The junior from Alpharetta, Ga., averaged 6.33 kills per set in Hawai'i's split at Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. Alexander opened the weekend by leading the Rainbow Wahine with 18 kills with just four errors in 41 attempts to hit .341 in UH's sweep at Cal Poly on Friday. She followed with a 20-kill performance at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, posting the conference's highest total in a three-set match this season. She accounted for 10 of UH's 18 kills in the third set.

Saturday's match also marked the ninth time this season Alexander has put away at least 20 kills in a match. She's the first UH player to post 20 kills in nine matches in a season since Nikki Taylor also accomplished the feat nine times in 2015.

Alexander raised her conference-leading averages to 5.10 kills per set and 5.58 points per set. She enters the week third in NCAA Division I in total kills (362) and kills per set. She's fourth in total points (396.5) and fifth in points per set.

Alexander previously earned the Big West Offensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 16, Sept. 23 and Oct. 7.

The Rainbow Wahine (11-7, 5-3 Big West) close their road trip on Tuesday with a match at CSU Bakersfield (9-11, 3-5). The match is scheduled for 6 p.m Pacific Time (3 p.m. Hawai'i Time).
