LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team wrapped up the UNLV Quad with a 4-1 loss to Weber State on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. UH's No. 3
Karl Collins led the way notching the Rainbow Warriors only singles win to finish the week with a 3-1 record for the week.
The Warriors fought hard all day, but fell short on their final day in Las Vegas. UH opened the match with a doubles win on the No. 1 court with
Andy Hernandez and
Quinn Snyder dispatching Weber State's Elyes Marouani and Tristan Sarap, 6-3. But the Wildcatsj' William Zulch and Jordan Coutinho evened things defeating UH's
Guillaume Tattevin and Collins, 6-3. In the deciding match on Court No. 3, UH's
Sohta Urano and
Andrew Somerville took WSU's Matteo Savio and Tuan Minh Dinh to the limit, but came up just short, 7-5 as the Wildcats grabbed the doubles point.
The Wildcats raced out to a 3-0 win with victories on courts 2 and 4, but UH's Collins then came through at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over William Zulch. The last two singles matches went unfinished at No. 5 and 6, but in their first appearances this weekend both
Angus Hill and
Blue Cockle were tied at a set apiece when the match was clinched.
Hawai'i now has a month off until they open the Big West season with UC Davis on Friday, March 1 at the UH Tennis Complex.
