Igiede, Lang Earn Big West Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's volleyball players Amber Igiede and Kate Lang were voted Big West Offensive Player and Setter of the Week respectively after helping lead the Rainbow Wahine to a pair of sweeps to open the conference season. For Igiede, this is her third Offensive Player of the Week award this season and her sixth overall. For Lang, it is her fifth Setter of the Week award of 2023 and eighth of her career.
 
Igiede continues to be a game-changer both on offense and defense for Hawai'i. Last week in two matches, she led UH with 25 kills, averaging 4.17 kill/set, and hitting at a .558 clip—committing just one error in 43 attacks. She also led UH with 6.0 total blocks (two solo) and she scooped up eight digs. Igiede's .420 overall hitting percentage is now tops in the Big West and ranks her at No. 30 in the NCAA. Igiede also leads the BW in both points (230.0) and points/set (4.69) which ranks her No. 35 and No. 37 in the NCAA.
 
In UH's Big West opener against Cal State Bakersfield, Igiede put down a team-best 12 kills for a .440 hitting percentage (12-1-25). She also led the 'Bows with five blocks (two solo) while adding five digs. Igiede pounded seven kills in the first set alone en route to UH's most lopsided set win of the season, 25-8 . Against CSUN, Igiede hit a season-best .722 hitting percentage, pounding down 13 kills with no errors in 18 swings.
 
Igiede continues to climb the UH record books, passing former UH All-American middle Maja Gustin for 17th in career kills with 1,120. She remains at No. 6 in career total blocks with 468. It marks her ninth overall BW weekly honor of her career.
 
Lang split some playing time with freshman setter Jackie Matias, but the two combined to direct the UH offense to a .359 hitting percentage averaging 14.00 kills/set. Lang issued a team-best 51 assists, averaging 8.50 assists/set with a .455 assist percentage. She added 11 kills and a kill.
 
In UH's win over the Roadrunners, she recorded 29 assists with just one error in 68 attempts  for a .426 assist percentage while popping up six digs. Against the Matadors, Lang distributed 22 assists with no errors in 43 attempts for a .512 assist percentage while helping lead the 'Bows to a .402 team hitting percentage. Ten different Rainbow Wahine recorded at least one kill against CSUN.

Lang continues to lead the conference in total assists (523) and assists/set (10.67) In the NCAA current rankings, she comes into Week 6 ranked No. 19 in total assists and No. 20 in assists/set.
 
Dating back to last season, Lang has now earned six-consecutive BW Setter of the Week awards. Overall, this marks her 10th career BW weekly honor.

It is the fourth time that Igiede has been voted Offensive Player of the Week and Lang Setter of the Week at the same time.
