Women's Volleyball Defeats CSUN in Three

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (9-4, 2-0 Big West ) swept CSUN (2-11, 0-2 Big West), 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 on Sunday afternoon at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai'i hit a season-best .402 while holding the Matadors to a -.035 hit percentage. Ten different Rainbow Wahine posted at least one kill—led by Amber Igiede's match-high 13.
 
Igiede hit a season-best .722 with no errors on 18 attacks in three sets. She also added three digs, an assist and a block.
 
Junior transfer Paula Guersching put down a UH career-high seven kills and hit .400 (7-1-15) while adding three digs and a block.
 
Setters Kate Lang and Jackie Matias combined for 31 assists in the match with 22 and nine respectively.
 
In all, nine different UH players recorded at least one dig in the match, led by Caylen Alexander's seven. Hawai'i out hit CSUN 43-to-19 in kills and led the Matadors in assists (36-to-17), digs (32-to-23) and blocks (5.0-to-0.0). UH committed just 10 hitting errors. After getting a season-high 12 players in on Friday, 13 UH players saw action on Sunday. Hawai'i had a season-best .750 sideout percentage for the match.
 
Hawai'i led from the start and scored in small bunches in Set 1. UH led by as many as 12 late after a five-straight points with Lang serving. UH won the first set, 25-13. The 'Bows hit .360 and had an 84% sideout to start the match. The Matadors hit -.031 in the frame.  Seven different Rainbow Wahine recorded at least one kill—led by Riley Wagoner's three to start the match.
 
In Set 2, the Matadors kept things close until UH went on 6-0 scoring run with libero Talia Edmonds behind the service line. UH double-upped the Matadors at 16-8 and would cruise to win the second frame, 25-14.
 
The third set was close early on with teams trading sideouts. With UH holding a two point lead at 11-9, the 'Bows--with Edmonds serving again--reeled off 11-consecutive points to take a 22-9 lead. Hawai'i won the set going away, 25-12.
 
It marked UH's fourth-straight sweep and Sunday's match was the quickest of the season lasting just an hour and 19 minutes.
 
CSUN's Carissa Barron had a team-high eight kills with 10 assists. Paige Sentes popped up a team-high six digs.

Next up, the Rainbow Wahine head to California for a pair of Big West matches. UH will take on Long Beach State on Friday, Sept. 29 at 4:00 p.m. HT followed by UC San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 30th at 4:00 p.m. HT.
