EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior football team fell to a Pac-12 team for the second time this year with a 55-10 road setback to No. 13 Oregon Saturday at Autzen Stadium.
In the first meeting between the teams in nearly three decades, the Ducks got off to a fast start and never looked back in overwhelming the Rainbow Warriors (1-3). The high-octane Oregon offense scored less than one minute into the game on 49-yard pass from Bo Nix to Tez Johnson. It was sign of what was to come. Oregon racked up 24 points and 220 yards in the first quarter alone and scored on all six of its first half drives to take a commanding 34-3 lead at the break.
Oregon ended up scoring on all seven drives led by Nix, before the senior signal caller exited early in the third quarter. Nix finished 21-of-27 for 247 yards and three touchdowns in a little more than a half of action. The Ducks racked up 560 of total offense (333 pass, 227 rush), exploded for four plays longer than 40 yards and punted just twice in the game.
Meanwhile, unlike the first three games, UH had trouble moving the ball.
Brayden Schager was off target in his first five attempts of the game and UH generated just 44 yards passing in the first half. Schager finished 27-of-43 for 131 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Rainbow Warriors did go into the halftime locker room with some momentum, going on a 63-yard drive that concluded with a 29-yard
Matthew Shipley field goal as the halftime clock expired. UH also ended the game strong with five-minute, 75-yard drive on its final possession, capped by an
Alex Perry 1-yard catch for his first career score.
Oregon extended its nation-long home winning streak to 32 games. UH dropped its eighth straight road game dating back to last season.
UH now returns home for its final non-conference matchup of the regular-season when its hosts New Mexico State on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m. at the Ching Complex.
