LA QUINTA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team placed sixth after Tuesday's final round of the Big West Championship at the La Quinta Country Club.
The Rainbow Warriors carded a 293 for an 885 total. Long Beach State captured the team title with an 852 total while LBSU's Ian Gilligan won a sudden death playoff to take home medalist honors.
UH's top finisher was
Blaze Akana, who shot a 5-under 67 to finish at even par 216 and 11
th place. After starting 2-over through his first five holes, the Honolulu native birdied seven of his final 13 holes, including a 4-under 32 on the back nine.
Remington Hirano tied for 22
nd place at 5-over 221 after a final round 2-over 74.
Atsuya Oishi posted a 78 to finish at 8-over 224 and a tie for 28
th while
Josh Hayashida completed his first Big West Championship in a tie for 33
rd place at 227.
Zachary Sagayaga, who subbed in for
Tyler Ogawa in Round 2, shot a final round 79.
The Big West Championship concludes the 2022-23 season for the Rainbow Warriors and head coach Scott Simpson, who completed his second season with the program.
