LA QUINTA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team fired a 293 in the opening round of the Big West Championship Sunday at the La Quinta Country Club.
The Rainbow Warriors currently stands in sixth place, 12 strokes off the lead held by co-leaders Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, and Long Beach State (281). UH will be paired with Cal Poly (290) and UC Irvine (291) in Monday's second round.
All five UH golfers shot 75 or better led by freshman
Josh Hayashida, who carded even par 72 and is tied for 11
th place.
Atsuya Oishi and
Tyler Ogawa each shot 1-over 73 are tied for 14
th place.
Blaze Akana and
Remington Hirano posted 75 and are tied for 27
th.
CSUN teammates Felix Schrott and Brandon McDonough shared the individual lead at 6-under 66 while Cal State Fullerton's Harry Doig is one stroke back.
UH will tee off Round 2 at 10:50 a.m. PT.
