SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The fourth-seeded University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (10-8, 3-3 Big West) will open the 2023 Big West Championships against fifth-seeded Cal Poly (7-11, 2-4 BW) in one of two quarterfinal matches on Friday, April 28 at 6:00 a.m. HT. The three-day tournament will be hosted at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

BETWEEN THE LINES
- No. 3 UC Davis will face No. 6 UC Riverside in the other quarterfinal match. In Hawai'is most recent match, UH edged out the Mustangs in San Luis Obispo, Calif. 4-3 earlier this month.
- Hawai'i is still on a quest to capture its first Big West Championship title. UH has three overall conference titles as the Warriors won three-straight Western Athletic Conference (WAC) titles in 2008, '09, and '10 under former head coach John Nelson.
- UH's opening opponent was also UH's last opponent of the season. The Warriors edged out the Mustangs on the road earlier this month in UH's regular season finale, 4-3
- Hawai'i has finished third in the last two BW Championships for their highest BW tourney placing. Last year in 2022, UH won the opening round, 4-1 over UC Riverside, but fell to UC Santa Barbara, 1-4.
- 89th-ranked Andre Ilagan, UH's most decorated Warrior in history, enters the Championship with a UH-best 14-3 overall record. He is the only Warrior to have recorded double-digit wins in singles thus far. He has won his last 13-straight decisions while starting the last 77-straight matches at No. 1 for Hawai'i over the last five years. In doubles, Ilagan has an overall record of 12-5 and is 5-2 with current partner Lucas Labrunie
- UH's Kilian Maitre is second ont he team with an 8-8 overall singles record, primarily playing at No. 6 where he is 7-4 overall. In doubles, Maitre and partner Axel Labrunie have a team-best 11-2 overall record together, winning all their matches on the No. 2 court
