LAS VEGAS, Nev. – University of Hawai'i sophomore
Mayumi Umezu tied for fourth place at the 2023 Big West Women's Golf Championships following Tuesday's final round at the Spanish Trail Country Club.
The Waimea, Hawai'i native carded a final round 2-over 74 to finish the tournament at 6-over 222. She was 1-under at the turn before dropped four strokes until a birdie at her closing hole. Umezu finished six strokes behind medalist Jasmine Leovao of Long Beach State who carded even par 216 after a final round 78.
Cal Poly repeated as team champion with an 893 total, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Long Beach State. UH finished in seventh place at 930 after a final round 317. The Rainbow Wahine were forced to finish with four golfers after
Hyeonji Kang withdrew late in her front nine.
Focus Jonglikit tied for 28
th place at 236 after a final round 82 while
Monica Johnson tied for 34
th at 243.
Ting-Yu Liu, who was inserted into the lineup in Round 2, carded a final round 81.
Wendy Song started Round 1 for the Rainbow Wahine and carded an 84 before being replaced by Liu in the lineup.
The tournament concludes the season for the Rainbow Wahine and first-year head coach Julie Brooks.
