SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team posted its best single-round score at the Western Intercollegiate with a second round 1-over 351 Tuesday at the Pasatiempo Golf Club.
Since the tournament moved back to a play-6, score-5 format in 2010, UH's best previous round was 361 in 2013. The Rainbow Warriors are a regular participant in the tournament, having competed in every Western Intercollegiate since 2010 and all but two since 2000. Hawai'i currently sits in 12
th place in the 14-team event at 717.
UH's 351 was the third-best score of the day behind Pepperdine's 22-under 328 and BYU's 10-under 340. Ninth-ranked Pepperdine leads the team standings at 27-under 673 followed by Oregon (687), Brigham Young (692), California (696), and Stanford (698).
UH's
Blaze Akana and
Remington Hirano each carded 3-under 67 on the day. Akana posted five birdies on his round which included a back nine 3-under 32. The Honolulu native is tied for 13
th place a 2-under 138. An eagle on the par-5 No. 9 hole highlighted Hirano's round which included a front nine 3-under 32. The Honolulu native is tied for 42
nd place at 3-over 143.
Tyler Ogawa rebounded from a first round 79 with a 2-under 68 on Tuesday. The Honolulu native also shot a front nine 32 with four birdies during a six-hole stretch to make the turn. The sophomore is tied for 66
th at 7-over 147.

rd), who carded a second round 74;
Atsuya Oishi (147; t-66
th), who posted 75; and
Zachary Sagayaga (155; 91
st); who shot 79.
Pepperdine's Sam Choi and Oregon's Owen Avrit share the tourney lead at 9-under 131.
