SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – University of Hawai'i's Blaze Akana and Josh Hayashida each shot 1-over 71 on the first day of the 76^th Western Intercollegiate Monday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
 
The pair currently sit in a tie for 40^th place heading into Tuesday's second round. As a team, the Rainbow Warriors are in 14^th place with a 366 total.
 
California leads the team standings at 334 followed by Oregon (335), Stanford (339), and Pepperdine (345). Individually, Cal's Aaron Du carded a 7-under 63 for the first round lead. Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen and Oregon's Gregory Solhaug are one stroke back.
 
Atsuya Oishi shot 72 and is tied for 52^nd while Zachary Sagayaga and Remington Hirano each posted 76 for a tie for 80^th. Tyler Ogawa rounded out UH's contingent with a 79 for 90^th place.
 
Hawai'i tees off Round 2 paired with UC Irvine beginning at 8:46 a.m. PT. The Golf Channel will provide live coverage from 4:00-7:00 p.m. PT.
