Mayumi Umezu is tied for fifth place after the first day of the 37
th Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, Monday at the Hoakalei Country Club.
The Waimea, Hawai'i native is 4-over 148 through 36 holes after rounds of 72 and 76. Umezu is seven strokes off the lead held by Long Beach State's Angelina Kim, who is the only golfer in the field under par at 3-under 141.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine sit in seventh place with a 613 total. UNC Wilmington (592) holds the lead by one stroke over Long Beach State (593) followed by defending champion Sacramento State (595).
