MINNEAPOLIS – The Hawai'i baseball team dropped game two of the Cambria College Classic to a hot-hitting Nebraska team, 12-3, Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Cornhuskers finished with 18 hits off of UH pitching while the 'Bows, despite managing 11 hits on the day, couldn't get much offense going until the later innings.
Neither team could scratch across a run over the first three innings, as Hawai'i kept the Cornhuskers off the board with the help of some solid defensive plays to end the first and second innings. After a one-out single the 'Bows turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the first inning before
Kyson Donahue made a sliding stop at third to strand two runners in the second.
Nebraska got on the board in the fourth, when Gabe Swansen delivered a two-out, two-run double to chase UH starter
Randy Abshier. The Cornhuskers made it 3-0 in the fifth after Max Anderson knocked in a run with a triple to right center.
The Cornhuskers broke things open in the sixth, scoring five runs with the help of three consecutive run-scoring singles and an error to take an 8-0 lead.
After Nebraska made it 10-0 in the top of the seventh, the 'Bows got their first runs of the game to answer back in the bottom half. Donahue led off with a solo homer to the upper deck in right field before
Jordan Donahue came through with a run-scoring double to make it 10-2.
Matt Wong tacked on his second homer of the weekend with a solo shot to left center in the eighth.
The Rainbow Warriors close out the weekend at the Cambria College Classic Sunday morning against No. 18 Maryland at 5:30 a.m. HT.
