Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Rainbow Wahine Cruise Past Fullerton; Cole Hits 200 Career Wins

FULLERTON, Calif.  -- The No. 4 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team notched its most empathic conference win ever with a 20-3 rout of Cal State Fullerton Friday night at the Titan Aquatics Center. With the win the Rainbow Wahine improved to 18-3 overall and remained in sole possession of first place in the Big West with an unblemished 5-0 record.

It was a milestone night for UH head coach Maureen Cole who reached 200 wins for her career at UH. In her 12th season at the helm of the Rainbow Wahine, Cole owns a stellar 200-89 mark while leading UH to five Big West regular-season crowns.

UH moved a step closer to yet another conference title following its first-ever meeting with the Titans (11-16, 0-4) who are in the midst of their inaugural season. UH, which started the match with a number of reserves taking the water, scored the first five goals of the match and never looked back in winning by a 17-goal margin. It marked the school's  largest margin of victory ever in a conference match, surpassing the previous record of 16 versus Pacific in 2006.

UH built an 11-2 lead at the half with nine different players finding the back of the net through the first two quarters and continued to roll in the second half when they out-scored Fullerton, 9-1. In all, 11 different players finished in the scoring column

Raha Peiravani tallied their first career hat trick with five goals to lead the Rainbow Wahine. Morgan Rios (3 goals) also tallied her first hat trick, while Jordan Wedderburn and Lot Stertefeld scored multiple goals as well. Bia Mantellato Dias who has been on a tear for the Rainbow Wahine played limited minutes as did many of the UH starters. The freshman didn't attempt a single shot but contributed an assist and a steal. Charlotte Edler got the nod in goal and finished with six saves as UH tied a season-low for goals allowed.

The Rainbow Wahine will conclude its three-match road trip with a non-conference showdown at No. 3 UCLA on Sunday, April 2. First sprint is 12 p.m./9 a.m. HT at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
