Final Two Men's Basketball Home Games Pit Big West Heavyweights

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team (20-8, 11-5 Big West) hosts its final homestand of the season by squaring off against the top two teams in the Big West, beginning with a meeting versus second-place UC Riverside on Thursday, Feb. 23.Tipoff is 7:00 p.m. at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors have won four of its last five games and are just a half game behind the Highlanders (19-10, 12-5). The will be the first time since 2020 that UH and UC Riverside will meet in Honolulu. In celebration of Black History Month, UH players will be wearing patches of prominent African-Americans who have had an impact in Hawai'i.

Following its game versus UC Riverside, UH will host first-place UC Irvine in a nationally-televised Senior Night game. Fans are encouraged to wear white UH apparel and the first 3,000 fans will receive a free senior night t-shirt (while supplies last). A trio of players - Samuta Avea, Kamaka Hepa and Juan Munoz - will be making their final home appearance and will be honored at the conclusion of the game. Due to the impacts of COVID, UH and UC Riverside will meet in Honolulu for the first time since 2020.
The team have met six times since then with four regular-season meetings in Riverside and two in the Big West Tournament in Las Vegas.
The last six regular-season meetings between the teams have been decided by an average of 3.8 points, including a 4-point UH win last month.
UC Riverside ranks 24th in the nation in rebound margin. UH won at Riverside earlier this year despite ad 50-37 disadvantage on the boards.
Both teams are coming off double-digit road wins - UH a 61-50 win at CSU Bakersfield and UC Riverside a 96-76 rout at CSUN.
UH hit the 20-win mark with its 61-50 win over CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 20.
It's UH's 10th 20-win season in the collegiate era and first since 2015-16 season when UH won a school-record 28 games.
UH is assured of its sixth straight winning season. It's the second longest streak in program history. UH enjoyed eight straight winning seasons between the 1999-2000 and 2006-07 seasons. UH also had five straight winning seasons from 1970-71 to 1974-75.
