ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Hawai'i women's swimming and diving team built upon its lead at the MPSF Championships after another big day Friday while the men continue to sit in third place heading into the final day.
The Wahine currently sit at 510.5 points, 70.5 ahead of second-place UC San Diego while the Warriors are in third place with 414.5 points, trailing UCSB which has 462 and BYU which leads with 531.
Laticia Transom continued her record season by becoming the first Rainbow Wahine swimmer ever to swim sub-52 seconds in the 100 backstroke, setting a school record with a time of 51.88. She claimed her second individual MPSF title in the process while
Dorottya Dobos finished second in the event with a time of 54.54.
The Rainbow Wahine also continued their dominance in the relays, taking their fourth one of the meet with a narrow victory in the 400 medley relay. The squad of Dobos,
Kathryn Ivanov,
Anna Friedrich and Gabby Scudamore combined to swim a 3:39.29 and keep the UH women perfect in the relays at the MPSF meet.
The Wahine added a trio of individual runner-up finishes to add to the point total.
Anna Friedrich finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 54.09 while
Cass Treydte swam a 1:48.56 to place second in the 200 free and
Kathryn Ivanov was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.99
The UH divers continued their strong meet as they took both competitions on the springboards Friday.
Isabelle Lombardi picked up the win in the women's 1-meter competition with a score of 303.20 in the finals, meaning a Wahine diver has won the 1 meter MPSF title all 11 years that UH has been in the conference.
Mackaby Pennington made it 2-for-2 on diving titles on the men's side by winning his second conference title of the meet, putting up a mark of 379.80 in the 3-meter competition.
Juan Gonzalez made it a 1-2 finish for the Rainbow Warriors, coming in second with a score of 376.30 to give UH 37 big points in the event.
The competition wraps up Saturday with the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, 1650 free and 400 free relay while diving action concludes in Mission Viejo, Calif. with the men's and women's platform competitions.
