DALLAS – The Hawai'i men's 200 free relay team set a school record to lead a day filled with top 10 marks and high finishes to start team competition at the SMU Invitational Thursday.
The Rainbow Warrior relay squad of
Mario Surkovic, Jakub Ksziasek,
Jordan Meacham and
Timothy Gallagher started off the evening finals session by swimming a 1:18.27 to win the event and come in just under the previous program-best mark of 1:18.41 that was set in 2020.
Surkovic kept his strong opening day going in the 200 IM by swimming the second-fastest time in school history with a 1:45.02. The sophomore improved upon his time from the morning prelims, when he swam a 1:45.62, a time that was also good for No. 2 in UH history before he lowered it in the final.
Ksiazek delivered a blistering 19.64 in the 50 free final, moving in No. 2 all-time at UH in the event and swimming the fastest 50 free by a Rainbow Warrior that didn't come on the first leg of a relay.
Dietrich Meyer came in tied for fifth in the event, swimming a 19.91 to put him in a tie for eighth on the program top 10 list.
A pair of Rainbow Wahine also delivered top-10 times.
Cass Treydte, who already held the No. 3 500 free time at UH, improved upon on that with a 4:48.63 in the evening finals to move up to second in school history.
For the second straight meet, grad transfer
Mira Selling delivered a top-10 time in the 200 IM with a 2:01.46 to move up to sixth in program history.
Juan Gonzalez highlighted the opening day of diving competition, posting a mark of 328.10 in the finals to come in second in the 3-meter competition, while Mackaby Penningtom finished fourth with a 317.05. The Rainbow Wahine took the No. 6-8 spots in the 1-meter competition, led by
Isabelle Lombardi with a 264.65.
The Hawai'i swimming and diving squads begin day two of action in Dallas on Friday at 6 a.m. with swimming prelims.
