SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Hawai'i women's cross country team capped off the 2023 season with its best finish at the NCAA West Regional since 2016, coming in 27th with 742 points Friday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
Freshman
Emilie Kirk Langschwager finished off her first collegiate season by running the second-fastest 6k time in program history, posting a 20:48.6 to finish 71st – the best finish by a Rainbow Wahine runner at regionals since 2016. The native of Denmark is just the third UH runner to run sub-21:00 in the 6k and now holds program top-five times in both the 5k and 6k. She also came in first in the meet among all Big West freshmen.
"Ecstatic with the efforts and team performance today," said head coach
Tim Boyce. "Finishing in the top 30 was an achievable goal and they checked that box. As a freshman, Emilie just ran the second-fastest 6k in school history and we had numerous personal bests among our group of seven. We definitely had the youngest squad in the race and as we've been saying, our future is bright."
Five of UH's remaining six runners also turned in 6k PR times, led by another freshman in
Zola O'Donnell, who was the second Rainbow Wahine to cross the line in 21:51.6. Sophomore
Keilah Wilkes followed with a 22:08.5 while grad transfer
Tania Tan came in right behind her in 22:09.3
Three more true freshmen rounded out the Hawai'i finishers.
Jessica Duran was the fifth UH runner to cross, posting a season-best time of 22:39.6.
Abby Crossley came in just after Duran with a mark of 22:40.2 while
Alexandra Zanon closed out her freshman season with a 23:08.8.
