Women's Volleyball Overpowers Cal State Fullerton in Three

Box Score HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (11-5, 4-1 Big West) returned home to sweep Cal State Fullerton, 25-18, 25-10, 25-14 on Friday night at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. A season-high fourteen different Rainbow Wahine saw action on the court with 11 putting down at least one kill and 11 coming up with at least one dig for the match.
 
Hawai'i was led by the duo of Kenndi Evans and Caylen Alexander who both buried a match-high seven kills each. Evans was errorless in 14 swing to hit .500 for the match. Amber Igiede added six kills and hit .417 with a match-high five blocks. Paula Guersching put down three kills but scooped up a team-best seven digs while Kate Lang dished out a match-high 23 assists with three blocks and two digs.
 
An early 7-0 run by UH gave UH a 10-2 lead and it was off to the races for the Wahine. UH would lead by as many as nine at 21-12 before Fullerton went on a 5-to-2 run. Even with a stream of different combinations of players coming onto the court, the 'Bows coasted to take Set 1, 25-18.
 
In Set 2, a six-point run with Igiede serving pushed UH's lead to 13-5. Hawai'i kept their foot on the gas throughout the frame. UH scored six of the last seven points to win Set 2, 25-10.
 
The Titans led early in Set 3. With UH trailing 3-4 and Igiede behind the service line again, the 'Bows scored six-straight to tie and overtake CSUF out to a 9-4 lead. UH never trailed again, pulling away to seal the sweep capturing Set 3, 25-14.
 
Cal State Fullerton (1-14, 0-6 BW) was led by Laura Williams' seven kills while Nadia Koanui popped up a match-high 13 digs.
 
Hawai'i out-hit the Titans 40-20 in kills and .271-to--.049 in hitting percentage. UH had a 38-to-18 advantage in assists, 47-to-38 lead in digs and for the sixth time this season the Mānoa Roofing Company recorded double-digit blocks with 10.5 roofs.
 
The Rainbow Wahine have a quick turnaround as they take on UC Irvine (4-12, 2-3 BW) on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. HT.
