HONOLULU – With the completion of its non-conference slate, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team announced its full schedule for the 2023-24 season. UH's 31-game schedule includes 18 home contests, highlighted by the team's defense of its Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic title and preluded with a meeting versus 2023 NCAA Tournament team Nevada.
A New Beginning: While the OUTRIGGER Rainbow Classic usually beckons the start of the basketball season, due to scheduling conflicts the event will not happen this year.. It is, however, expected to return next season…UH will instead open the year at home on November 14 versus UH Hilo, then will host Northern Arizona a week later on Nov. 21.
The Desert and the Mountains: The 'Bows will make their first road trip on Thanksgiving Week when they travel to Palm Springs, Calif., for the Acrisure Invitational…UH will take on UT Rio Grande Valley on Nov. 24 before taking on either Arkansas State or San Diego in the two-day tournament…the team will then head north to Salt Lake City to take on former WAC rival Utah on Nov. 30…that game will be played at the Delta Center, home of the NBA's Utah Jazz.
A December To Remember, Part II?: Last year, UH won all six of its home games in December including a memorable title run in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. …this year. UH will play seven home games in December and will have four consecutive Sunday contests…UH will host Central Arkansas (Dec. 3), Hawaii Pacific (Dec. 10) and Nevada (Dec. 17), prior to the Diamond Head Classic which will run Dec. 21, 22, and 24…the month closes with UH's Big West opener versus Cal State Fullerton (Dec. 30).
Familiar Faces: UH has played all of the non-conference opponents on its schedule at least once before…two teams of the teams are very familiar in former Western Athletic conference rivals in Utah (1980-99) and Nevada (2001-12)…UH has played Utah 60 previous times and Nevada 33 times....
Nevada won 22 games last year en route to an NCAA Tournament bid…the Wolf Pack will also compete in the Diamond Head Classic.
A Christmas Tradition: The Rainbow Warriors will conclude its non-conference slate with the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic which will run a day earlier than usual and conclude on Dec. 24…UH will open its title defense against Portland in the opening round on Dec. 21 and will face either Georgia Tech or UMass the next day…Christmas Eve will find UH facing either Nevada, Old Dominion, TCU or Temple.
Big West Play: The Big West previously announced the 20-game conference schedule, which opens at home for UH on Dec. 30 …UH also closes its regular season at home March 9 versus CSU Bakersfield...it's the first time since 2014 the 'Bows will conclude its regular season schedule at home…for the third straight year, the Big West Championship will be at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev…this tournament will run March 13-16 with the top two teams earning a double-bye.
