LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (2-3) notched their first two wins of the season by sweeping its doubleheader on Friday. The Rainbow Warriors edged out host UNLV, 4-3 in the morning then swept UC Riverside in a non-conference match in the afternoon, 4-0 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.

Hawai'i 4, UNLV 0
Hawai'i recorded its first dual match win of the season by edging out host UNLV, 4-3. UH's Kilian Maitre clinched the break thru victory for UH with a three set win on the No. 5 court.

UH's first road match of 2023 started with the Rainbow Warriors capturing their first doubles point of the season. Although UNLV's No. 1 pairing of Milos Dibac and Maxim Verboven defeated UH's Andre Ilagan and Karl Collins, 6-2, Hawai'i answered right back on the No. 2 court with Axel Laburnie and Maitre knocking off Anton Ornberg and Jackson Atherton, 6-2. With the doubles competition knotted at 1-1, UH's No. 3 duo of Lucas Labrunie and Andy Hernandez held off Thomas Navarro and Eduardo Cohen by a break to register UH's first point of the season, 7-5.

The Warriors quickly raced out to a 3-0 match lead as 41st-ranked Ilagan swept UNLV's Verboven, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 match, while A. Labrunie cruised past Dibac in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The Rebels rallied to trail by just one, 3-2, with wins at No. 4 and No. 3. Hawai'i's Maitre then came thru for the win. He dropped his first set against UNLV's Atherton, but came roaring back to win the final two sets to clinch the match for the 'Bows, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. On court No. 5, UH's Hernandez battled but fell in a third set tie-breaker to the Rebels' Dusan Rsovac, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final match of the morning.

Hawai'i 4, UC Riverside 0
The Rainbow Warriors kept things rolling against Big West opponent UC Riverside in a non-conference match. The 'Bows made quick work of the Highlanders with a 4-0 sweep to conclude UH's doubleheader. 

Hawai'i got out of the gates fast, winning the doubles point as UH's No. 2 Maitre and A. Labrunie blanking UCR's Velek and Huynh, 6-0. Soon after, Ilagan and Collins nearly recorded a shutout against Djakovis and Roth 6-1 to seal the first point of the match.

UH won the first three singles matches that finished in straight sets for the win. L. Labrunie got things started posting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Yannuck. Ilagan followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Djakovis and Guillaume Tattevin clinched the 'Bows second-straight win on the No. 3 court over Roth, 6-3, 6-2. The final three matches went unfinished.

Hawai'i continues its road trip with another dual match on Saturday, Jan. 28. The 'Bows will take on Weber State at 12:00 p.m. HT. On Sunday, Jan. 29, UH will conclude their Vegas stint with a dual match vs. former WAC rival, New Mexico State at 8:00 a.m. HT.
