  NEWS & NOTES
- The Rainbow Warriors began the 2023 season with an extremely tough opening weekend with dual matches against No. 16 Florida State and No. 20 Duke sandwiching the single-day, Hawai'i Invitational tournament which included Duke and California.
- UH's 41st-ranked Andre Ilagan had a heart-breaking three-set super tie-breaker loss to FSU's 12th-ranked Antoine Cornut-Charuvinc. Ilagan bounced back defeating Duke's 84th-ranked Pedro Rodenas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 in the Invitational. Ilagan then fell to the Blue Devils' fourth-ranked Garrett Johns to conclude the week.
- Against the 16th-ranked Seminoles, Hawai'i's No. 1 doubles team of Karl Collins and Ilagan knocked off Barnaby Smith and Cornut-Charvunc by a break, 6-4. The duo of Ilagan and Collins are the only pair to record two wins thus far.
- Last year, UCLA finished ranked No. 47 with a 13-12 overall record, going 9-3 at home. This season, they were able to get some matches in last week at the Sherwood College Cup in soggy conditions at the Thousand Oaks, Calif.Â
- This year, the Bruins are led by 84th-ranked Alexander Hoognartens (who finished 2022 ranked No. 23) and 89th-ranked Giacomo Revelli.
- This is just the seventh meeting against UCLA for the Rainbow Warriors. The Bruins are 6-0 against Hawai'i. The two teams last met in 2013 with UCLA winning on their home court, 6-1
