Alvarez Back With BeachBow Coaching Staff

HONOLULU -- Head coach Evan Silberstein announced that Danny Alvarez has re-joined the  University of Hawai'i beach volleyball program as an assistant coach. Alvarez, who holds more than two decades of coaching experience, previously served as a volunteer assistant for the BeachBows from 2012-19.

Alvarez was instrumental in building the foundation for the fledgling Rainbow Wahine program and developing it into a national contender. The Honolulu native served as the only assistant coach in the inaugural 2012 season. He helped numerous indoor players make the transition to sand, while further developing the experienced sand players.

Since that first season, he coached nine AVCA All-Americans and 16 all-conference players. Alvarez also helped guide the Rainbow Wahine to a No. 1 ranking and six straight appearances in the nationals, including four NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2015, he gained much-earned recognition when he was named Coach of the Year at UH's annual "H" Awards event.

"Bringing Danny back is such a boost for our program," Silberstein said. "His affable personality and trustworthiness are surpassed only by his expertise and his drive to bring honor and greatness to our student-athletes. We couldn't be more excited to have him return to UH."

Prior to first joining UH in 2012, Alvarez was already deeply rooted in the local volleyball scene. For 17 years he served as tournament director for various beach volleyball events including the Daddy Haine 4s and local versions of King of the Beach tournaments, as well as the Duke Kahanamoku State Beach Doubles Championships. Over the last two decades he has also helped train numerous AVP beach professionals.
