Cowell Joins Rainbow Wahine Volleyball for 2022

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i head coach Robyn Ah Mow announced the addition of Chandler Cowell to the 2022 Rainbow Wahine roster. Cowell is a 5-10 outside hitter who has two years of eligibility left after beginning her collegiate career at St. Mary's (CA).

Cowell is an athletic pin-hitter with a high volleyball IQ and valuable DI experience. In 2021, she had her best season as a Gael. Although she missed three matches due to injury, she led SMC with 219 kills, 2.52 kills/set (tied with Elena Baka), and 260.0 total points. She finished third on the team with 20 service aces and 174 digs while logging 37 total blocks. She recorded 13 matches with at least 10 kills—including six-straight double-digit kill matches from Sept. 28-Oct. 28. Cowell also notched three double-doubles last season. For her career, Cowell leads St. Mary's with 391 kills (2.43 k/s), 306 digs, 70 total blocks, 31 service aces, 36 assists and 460.5 total points (2.86 p/s). She earned her Bachelor's degree in communications from St. Mary's this Spring and will begin her pursuit of her Master's degree in communications at UH this Fall.

Cowell was a four-year letterwinner at King Kekaulike High School in Kula, Maui. She was tabbed an all-state Fab 15, earned all-state first team honors in 2016 and was voted to the HHSAA all-tournament team in 2016. Cowell also earned all-league honors for three straight seasons (2015-17). She helped lead the Na Ali'i to three-consecutive league titles (2014-16) and placed fourth at the 2016 HHSAA tourney.

"Chandler is an athletic and agile pin-hitter who will add experience to our team," says Ah Mow. "She is a home grown athlete who knew exactly what she wanted when she entered the portal. Chandler is determined, focused and is just the type of student-athlete we want to help grow the culture of Rainbow Wahine volleyball."

"I could not be more excited and am humbled to be returning home to play for the University of Hawai'i," says Cowell. "It has always been a dream of mine that is now becoming a reality. I look forward to playing alongside some amazing players and to be coached by a phenomenal coaching staff. Go 'Bows!"

Chandler is the younger sister of former UH men's volleyball All-American Colton Cowell who was a Rainbow Warrior from 2016-21.
