LA QUINTA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team carded an opening round 300 Sunday and is in seventh place at the Big West Championship held at the La Quinta Country Club.
UC Davis hold the first round lead at 283 followed by Long Beach State (289), UC Irvine (290), Cal Poly (293), CSU Fullerton (295), CSUN (297), UH (300), UC Riverside (301), and UC Santa Barbara (309).
Pierce Braun carded a 1-over 73 and is tied for 11
th place to lead the Rainbow Warriors. The Arizona native posted an eagle on the par-4, No. 8 hole which highlighted his round.
UCD's Thomas Hutchison holds the Round 1 lead after a 5-under 67. UCI's Darien Zhao and LBSU's Ian Giligan are three strokes back.
UH's
Tyler Ogawa is tied for 16
th after a 2-over 74. Also competing for the Warriors are
Isaiah Kanno (76; t-31
st),
Atsuya Oishi (77; t-34
th), and
Zachary Sagayaga (79; t-38
th).
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Monday. Hawai'i will be paired with UCSB and UCR with tee times beginning at 10:30 a.m. PT.
