IRVINE, Calif. – For the second consecutive week and for the third time this season, University of Hawai'i beach volleyball players
Kaylee Glagau and
Brooke Van Sickle were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week. The duo earned the award after excelling against a gauntlet of top-ranked opponents in Southern California this past weekend.
Glagau and Van Sickle went 4-2 on the week while facing five ranked squads, including the top three teams in the nation. The duo started the week with a straight set win over Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno in UH's near-upset of second-ranked TCU. They also picked up wins against the top pairs of No. 6 LSU, No. 15 Florida International and Utah during the UCLA Invitational. Their three-set win over Paige Kalkhoff and Giada Bianchi helped propel UH to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Florida International.
Their only losses on the week came at the hand No. 1 UCLA and No. 3 USC. Glagau and Van Sickle have played all 26 of their matches together at the No. 1 flight. Overall, the pair is 19-7 overall and have won 12 of its last 14 matches.
Following its two-week road trip, UH returns to the islands for its final homestand of the week. The Rainbow Wahine will host top-10 squads Loyola Marymount and Grand Canyon in a series of round-robin dual matches, April 9-10 at the Ching Complex.
