SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The fourth-seeded University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (12-5 4-2 Big West) cruised past No. 5 seed UC Riverside (6-16, 1-5 Big West) with a 4-0 sweep to advance to the Big West Championship tournament on Friday, April 29 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.. The Rainbow Warriors captured the doubles point to start the match, then reeled off three quick singles win to clinch the match. With the win, UH punched its ticket into the semifinals for the second-straight season and just the third time since UH joined the Big West in 2013.

Hawai'i swept in doubles with UH's No. 1 duo of Andre Ilagan and Karl Collins defeating Daniel Velek and Nolan McCaig, 6-2, while Simão Telo Alves and Kilian Maitre soon followed with a 6-4 win over UCR's Aareve Sane and Ryan Huynh for the doubles point.

Hawai' recorded three-straight, two set singles wins to propel themselves into the next round. UH's 40th-ranked Ilagan led off by efficiently downed UC Riverside's Anreas Djakouris, 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. Hawai'i's No. 2 Axel Labrunie took the first set by just a break but then blanked UCR's McCaig in the second set, 6-4, 6-0 to give the Rainbow Warriors a 3-0 lead. UH's No. 4 Guillaume Tattevin then clinched the quarterfinal match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Andreas Whelan.

The Rainbow Warriors win sets a rematch against top-seeded and 55th-ranked UC Santa Barbara (16-5, 5-1 BWC) in Saturday's semifinal showdown. Earlier this year, Hawai'i edged out the Gauchos with a 4-3 upset win which snapped a five-match losing streak to UCSB. The Rainbow Warriors and Gauchos will face off on Saturday, April 30 at 6:00 a.m. HT at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
