Rainbow Warriors Add Washington State Transfer

HONOLULU -- University of Hawai'i men's basketball coach Eran Ganot announced the addition of Ryan Rapp to the 2022-23 Rainbow Warriors roster. Rapp spent the last three seasons at Washington State and will have two years of eligibility upon his arrival in Manoa this summer.

A 6-5, 190-pounds, Rapp brings versatility to the program with his capability to play both backcourt positions as well as the wing. He appeared in 54 games over three years at Washington State. During the 2020-21 campaign he started four games for the Cougars, including a game versus eventual Final Four squad UCLA in which he posted eight rebounds and eight assists. This past season he was part of a Cougar squad that advanced to the NIT semifinals for just the second time in program history.

"Ryan is a big and versatile guard who can help our backcourt in multiple ways," Ganot said. "He's a playmaker who makes things happen with his size and ability to both penetrate and shoot it from deep. His basketball IQ and leadership capabilities make him a welcome addition to our 'ohana. Ryan is someone we've followed since his prep years in Australia and we're excited about his arrival and continued development with us."

Basketball is in Rapp's blood. His father Tim was an All-American basketball player at UC San Diego and is in the school's Athletics Hall of Fame. His aunt Jess Foley was a 2006 WNBA draft pick after playing in a national title game, two Final Fours and an Elite Eight for Duke.

Rapp will leave Washington State with a degree in business after just three years. He is the third player – and first Division I transfer – to commit to the Rainbow Warriors this spring, joining frontcourt players Harry Rouhliadeff and Mor Seck.
