IRVINE, Calif. – Just one day after earning Big West Player of the Week honors, University of Hawai'i opposite
Dimitrios Mouchlias was awarded as the AVCA's National Player of the Week.
This mark the second time a UH player has received the award this season after setter
Jakob Thelle opened the year as the AVCA's first weekly recipient.
Mouchlias averaged 5.50 kills per set while hitting at a .486 clip in a two-match series sweep of UC Irvine to close out the regular season. The Soufli, Greece native also averaged 1.13 blocks and 1.00 digs per set and had three aces against the Anteaters.
In the series finale on Saturday, the sophomore recorded a career-high 31 kills on .510 hitting along with a career-high five blocks in the five-set victory. He also tallied two aces and four digs. The 31 kills is the first 30-kill performance in the Big West this season and tied for the fourth-most in the country.
On Friday, Mouchlias had a team-high 13 kills on .440 hitting with four blocks, four digs, and an ace.
Mouchlias has 13 double-digit kill matches this season including four straight.
