HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (9-7, 5-2 Big West) hosts its final home match of the season on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 against Cal Lutheran (9-6, 2-3 SCIAC). It will be Senior Day for Hawai'i's three seniors--Gitte Heynemans, Nidhi Surapaneni, and Tal Talya Zandberg. The Rainbow Wahine currently sit in third place in the Big West standings behind the two teams that beat UH in the BWC thus far, #72 Cal Poly who has a 6-0 conference record and #24 UC Santa Barbara who is 5-0 in the BWC. 

The Rainbow Wahine got back on the winning track this past Saturday, sweeping UC Irvine in a Big West matchup, 7-0. It marked UH's sixth-straight home sweep. But between the Rainbow Wahine's fifth and sixth sweep, UH went 0-4 on its most recent roadtrip which featured three ranked teams and undefeated league-leader, Cal Poly.

Two of Hawai'i's three seniors--Gitte Heynemans and Tal Talya Zandberg--lead the 'Bows into this week with identical 11-6 singles records. Both Heynemans and Zandberg are senior transfers who came to compete as Rainbow Wahine for their final year of eligibility. Heynemans, who is from Brussels, Belgium, has played the majority of her matches on the No. 5 court has also seen time at No. 3 and No. 6. Zandberg, who is from Tiberias, Israel, is 8-2 playing on the No. 4 court but has also seen time playing at No. 2, and No. 3 as well. The two former Wildcat teammates are a perfect 12-0 combined in Big West matches.

Hawai'is third senior is also a senior transfer, but from North Texas. Nidhi Surapaneni, who hails from Douglasville, Georgia, leads UH with an 8-6 dual match record in doubles and is 8-9 overall in doubles. She and Heynemans have played the most matches together, posting a 6-4 Big West record. Surapaneni has played sparingly in singles, comin into this week with a 3-3 dual match record.
